Explanation about Hokey Pokey

Hokey Pokey Explanation

Hokey Pokey is a sweet that is famous in New Zealand, because It’s an ice cream flavour and it is made
in New Zealand. The ice cream consists of plain vanilla ice cream with small frozen lumps of honeycomb
toffee (Hokey Pokey is the New Zealand term of honeycomb toffee).


Hokey Pokey was made in the 1950s. Why is it called Hokey Pokey? It was because it was named after
the song called “The Hokey Pokey”. Composer Al Tabor claimed that the name came from the London
ice cream vendors of his youth called “Hokey Pokey Men”.


How do you make Hokey Pokey? First get the stuff that you need.. Namely; Sugar, Baking Soda, Golden
Syrup, Baking Pan, Baking Paper, Saucepan, Spatula.


This is how you make hokey pokey:
  • Pour ½ cup of sugar to the saucepan.
  • Heat up your pan on a stove
  • Put ¼ cup of golden syrup.
  • Then pour in a little amount of water to make the mixture not so sticky. Let the mixture dissolve.
  • When completely melted, set the timer for three minutes to let it cool.
  • Next, while mixing the sugar, pour in 2 teaspoons of baking soda. You will see the mixture get puffy
  • and thicker when the baking soda is added. When the mixture is melted, let it sit for about an hour
  • and a half. Then when cool, you can eat it.

Gas will be formed. The scientific name for the gas that was formed when it was puffing, is called Carbon
Dioxide. Plants produce carbon dioxide.
