How Do Waterspouts Form?

For Reading for week 1 of Term 4, we read a text about "How Do Waterspouts Form?". We were given reading activities to do on our Literacy books, but we had to make an Infographic - a DLO (that includes pictures, diagrams, symbols, flowcharts, words and numbers) showing what we've read. I've decided to make a slideshow showing all of the information that I have learnt.#

What I enjoyed: Making the flowchart
What I found hard: Tracing the pictures
What I found easy: Typing the information

The Perfect Gift

For reading from the past few weeks, we have been doing a slideshow about our reading activities. We had to choose five activities out of the ten of them. The title of the story that we needed to do two weeks ago was "The Perfect Gift". It was about a man who worked from home, and a stray cat that found the right house that she needed because winter was there. But when the the cat had to move houses as spring was approaching, she tried her best to find the perfect gift for the man as the cat wanted to thank him for taking care of her, so she somehow came up with a brilliant idea on what to give the man instead of giving him fancy things that he didn't need to use because he was already rich.

What I found hard: Doing the 'Seeing Both Sides' activity
I found it easy: Getting all the facts of the characters in the story
I found it fun: Making the Pictures

Christmas Would You Rather?

Christmas Would You Rather...

Be at home on Christmas and get lots of presents?
Or
Go to Disneyland for Christmas but not get any presents?

My Argument: I would rather be at home on Christmas and get lots of presents, because maybe a ticket to Disneyland is one of my presents, and because I would still spend a lot of money for food and souvenirs, and where we have to stay.

Be given $100 for Christmas to buy things to yourself?
Or
Be given $1000 before Christmas to use to buy gifts for other people?

My Argument: I would rather be given $1000 before Christmas, because I could give food to the homeless, because I’m okay if I don’t get anything for Christmas, and two sayings;

-Sharing is caring
-It’s better to give than to receive

What would you rather? And what's your reason?

A Walk In The Park

"We shouldn’t have went here…"

It was the Night of the Friday the 13th, at 1:00AM, when me and my friend decided to go for a little walk in the Abandoned Park just a few metres away from my house. We got all our stuff in our bag; flashlight, phone, snacks, drinks, earphones, etc.

First, we took out our phone and started filming. While we were filming, we saw a terrifying tree, we thought we saw something hanging up the tree, but when we checked what it was, there was nothing. “Can we go home now?!” I said, scared.
We saw a different path, “Let’s go that way!” my friend said without hesitating and without being fearful. We saw a sign which we thought was the name of the park, but we couldn’t read what it was.

Although we were frightened, we still continued following the path. Next, there’s this GIGANTIC, and creepy tree, which also kind of looked like the other one, but this one is more enormous. Since I can tell that my friend’s fear is taking over her braveness, we decided to go home.

2:07 AM; As we were on our way home, we saw this strange-looking, and mysterious thing in the sky that was actually shaped like a U.F.O. We thought it was a plane before, but when we took a little closer look, that’s when we found out it was shaped like a U.F.O. But what could it actually be? Is it a real U.F.O? We might find out, or we might not...

2:54 AM; The moon rised higher, and brighter, as we walk home. After observing the moon dazzling, when we looked away, and looked for the U.F.O, it wasn’t there anymore. There was silence… Until I heard a cry. It sounded like a little girl’s voice. “Did you hear that?” I whispered. “Yeah, it’s creepy.” my friend replied.

3:14 AM; On the way, we walked past a playground, and realized that the swing was swinging by itself. As we continued to roam, we also saw the see-saws going up and down by itself, and that’s when we thought that we needed to get out of the playground because it was also haunted.

3:33 AM; That was the final time that we actually decided to go home and get some rest. So we ran on the way back, following the path that we walked to on the way here. It was dark so we had to take both of our flashlights to light the way, because we might bump into something that we can’t see.

4:29 AM; Finally, we got home. We took a glass of water and drank it, next, I laid on the couch, and my friend went home. “It’s alright, maybe you were just seeing things.” I muttered. BUT! But when I remembered that we were filming the whole time, I decided to take a look at the footage and see if we were actually seeing things or not.

So I took my phone out, and reviewed the footage, and I absolutely knew that I was right, and we weren’t just seeing things…

"Because Of Walter"

For the past weeks, we have been doing 'Novel Studies' and have been reading a book named "Because Of Walter". It was written by Carol Krueger and was Illustrated by Mary Dahl Winton.

The story was about a girl named Kaysha who has been in different foster homes because her mother was too young, and she couldn't take care of Kaysha. Once, she got to the Parkers Family, Victoria, the Parkers' daughter, didn't want to share her parents to anyone. So she puts Kaysha into trouble by pretending that Kaysha stole her money, and Kaysha stole Mrs. Parker's necklace. But Shakespeare, the Parkers' dog, found the necklace burried under the tree. Then, many whales and Walter, an old male whale that Victoria and Kaysha helped, made Kaysha convince the Parkers' to adopt her, and Victoria and her were friends after helping Walter and the other whales get back to their natural habitats. At the end, the Parkers' have decided that they would legally adopt Kaysha.

We have been writing notes and activities like what Kaysha would be doing in the future. We also have been looking at the Author's background. We also have been doing notes if we would recommend the book. I actually would recommend this book, because it tells us many lessons, and because the characters' roles can be relatable, like Victoria's, it can be relatable for the people that used to be or is actually an only child. Kaysha's role can also inspire other people to do nice things that you need to do, even when no one is watching. The story also teaches us to be contented on what you do and what you have. We also have been making Y charts for Kaysha and Victoria

Explanation about Hokey Pokey

Hokey Pokey Explanation

Hokey Pokey is a sweet that is famous in New Zealand, because It’s an ice cream flavour and it is made
in New Zealand. The ice cream consists of plain vanilla ice cream with small frozen lumps of honeycomb

Hokey Pokey was made in the 1950s. Why is it called Hokey Pokey? It was because it was named after
the song called “The Hokey Pokey”. Composer Al Tabor claimed that the name came from the London

How do you make Hokey Pokey? First get the stuff that you need.. Namely; Sugar, Baking Soda, Golden

This is how you make hokey pokey:
  • Pour ½ cup of sugar to the saucepan.
  • Heat up your pan on a stove

Gas will be formed. The scientific name for the gas that was formed when it was puffing, is called Carbon
Dioxide. Plants produce carbon dioxide.

Explanation about Sea Turtles

Last week in Literacy, we have been writing about Explanations. I wrote one about Sea Turtles.

Title: Sea Turtles
Date: 2 / 08 / 201

Sea Turtles have existed since the Jurassic. They have been here for 150 Million years. They have survived through the challenges of the eons, and the dinosaurs.

First, an adult female turtle lays its eggs in where she dug a hole to put the eggs there and protects them from threats. Its eggs feels leathery, and is sized and looks like white, ping-pong balls. Out of 1000 eggs being laid, roughly 20% will never hatch. Adults breed for 2 decades, which is 20 years.

A small sea turtle can be about the size of your palm. Unfortunately, 50% who reach the surf will perish. 400 baby turtles reach the water. Along their way to the water, they face danger or threats, such as crabs, seagulls, raccoons, and debris (rubbish).

A new host of predators such as; dolphins, sharks, sea birds, fishes, and mostly, killer whales, are also waiting for the sea turtles. Only 20 hatchlings (baby turtles) make it to the adult.

After many years, they will grow in size. After approximately 2 decades of age, they will be old enough to breed. Of those that began from eggs in the beach, now less than -10% remain. Some turtles suffer with chemicals in the sea, which caused their survival rate drop to 1% or less, and that made the sea turtles overwhelmed. Now there are only seven remaining species of sea turtles; Loggerhead, Kemp’s Ridley, Olive Ridley, Hawksbill, Flatback, and Leatherback. Sea turtles are now endangered. There used to be millions of sea turtles in the world, but now there’s less than a million.

That was a sad journey of growing up as a turtle since they suffer from many threats and they have to risk it just to make it to the adult, or just to survive. 4,600 - which means 90% - of turtles die each year.
I like how you have a lot of information for each paragraph I also like how you have got a lot of punctuation

I like how all of your sentences are interesting and simple I also like how you set out everything.

I think you have to work on to try and not write so much.
